Honoring Michigan Veterans

Sir Knights your Grand Commandery Veterans committee has a great opportunity for you to show your local communities that “We Care”. During the Easter Trip to DC, Sir Knights will have the chance to place a special memento on the last resting place of a Michigan Veteran. As a special caveat 16 Michigan veterans who have recently been laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery have been selected for Sir Knights to adopt.

If you are attending the Easter Services at Arlington, all you need to do is contact SK Darel Winslow “Butch” and select the veteran you wish to adopt from the list provided. Verify that you or your Commandery will agree to pay the $10.00 cost of the memento. Then while at Arlington, Butch will provide you with the materials, which consist of a small Michigan flag and a flower setup, a grave site locator, a small map and a ready to fill in and mail news article. You take it to the gravesite and place the memento 8” in front of either corner of the headstone. If you wish to take a picture next to the headstone, that is acceptable. All of these veterans are in section 60 which is only a short walk from the main parking area.

It’s that simple. You will have the deep satisfaction of having taken part in a small personal touch, as a representative to the community you choose of not only your Commandery, our Michigan Grand Commandery but of all Mason’s. These men have paid the greatest price while defending what our country stands for, don’t they all deserve to be forever, REMEMBERED & HONORED.
